Italian Restaurant

Showcase overview

This a step-by-step guide for creating Italian restaurant online menu. Following the steps of this guide, you can create a similar online menu. To proceed with creating the same menu you need to prepare media content and install FW Food Menu to your Joomla platform. To learn how to get started with FW Food Menu, review Getting started documentation page. If you have media content and FW Food Menu in place, it takes around half an hour to create a similar online menu.

We will proceed as follows:

Create categories

Breaking your menu into categories makes it easier for guests to skim and quickly find what they're looking for. We have created the following categories:

  • Soup
  • Second Courses
  • Salads
  • Appetizers
  • Pasta
  • Pizza selection
  • Bowls

Once all categories are created, your screen should look similar to the screenshot below.

Add meals and configure meals settings

Once the categories are created, you need to add meals to these categories.

When adding a meal make sure to do the following:

  • Specify meal title
  • Choose the category to display a meal within this category.
  • Add a description of the meal.
  • Specify pricing terms using a pricing grid.
  • Specify discounts using a pricing grid.
  • Configure promo options to highlight a meal as New, Meal of the day or Special.

Once a meal is configured, don’t forget to save your configuration. Your screen should look similar to the screenshot below.

As soon as all meals are configured, your meals list will look similar to the screenshot below:

Display categories with meals

We used a Cascading Layout to display the menu. The Cascading Layout allows to switch between the categories displayed in the separate tabs. To learn how to display the categories, do the following:

  1. Create Italian restaurant menu item.
  2. Assign Grid Menu Layout to the newly created menu item.
  3. Configure the layout as follows:
  • Display Full Menu: No
  • Display Image: Yes
  • Layout Design: Italian

Once the layout is configured, don’t forget to save your configuration. Once saved, check how the menu is displayed on the front-end.
