Showcase overview

In this guide, we will learn how to create a typical Pizzeria restaurant menu with FW Food Menu. Review a final result at Pizzeria demo. Before proceeding with creating the same menu, you need to have a media content prepared and FW Food Menu installed on your Joomla website. If you have media content and FW Food Menu in place, it takes around 50 minutes to create a similar online menu. To learn how to get started with FW Food Menu, review Getting started documentation page.

Our Pizzeria menu benefits are as follows:

  • A clearly laid out menu with categories and meals on one page. The effect is achieved using Menu layout.
  • An attractively styled meals list with background image and category image.
  • Flexible pricing set using a pricing grid. As a result, each pizza size is priced individually.
  • Highlighted meals items using promo options.
  • Enlarged meals images placed on top of the meal description.

We will proceed as follows:

Create a category

To make it easy for your customers to search for meals, it is essential to break your menu into logical sections arranging items sequentially. FW Food Menu allows creating menu sections via categories. Our pizza showcase has one Pizza category, but you can add as many categories as it is predefined by your menu. When configuring a category, pay attention to the following settings:

  • Parent category. Specify whether the category being added is a top-level category or a subordinate category.
  • Name. Specify a clear title of the category.
  • Category image. Upload category image via category description section.

Once category parameters are set, the new category form looks as follows:

Add meals to the category

Now that we have created a Pizza category, let’s add different pizza types on offer to the category. When adding a meal pay attention to the following:

  • Specify Pizza title.
  • Choose Pizza category to display a meal within this category.
  • Specify the description of the meal. Add pizza ingredients or any other specific information.
  • Specify pricing terms for different pizza sizes using the Prices and Sizes section. Add as many pricing terms as you need. Use Label column to specify optional ingredients or any other additional notes.
  • Configure promo options to highlight a meal as Recommended, New, Meal of the day or Special.

Once a meal is configured, don’t forget to save your configuration. Your screen should look similar to the screenshot below:

Once all meals are added and configured your meals list will look similar to the screenshot below:

Display Categories with meals

A pizza category is displayed using Menu Layout. The Menu Layout allows displaying all categories with meals on the same page. The meals can be styled using different description/images positions, background images and colors.

In our Pizzeria showcase, we placed meals images on top of descriptions as well as styled them using images backgrounds. To learn how to display the categories with images, do the following.

  1. Create Pizzeria menu item.
  2. Assign Menu Layout to the newly created menu item.
  3. Configure the layout as follows:
  • Select Category: Pizza
  • Layout Design: Italian
  • Category description position: Top
  • Meal image position: Top
  • Columns quantity: Three
  • Display Top meal of the day: No
  • Display PDF download button: No
  • Display image: Yes

Make sure to upload a background image that will be displayed for each meal within the category. Once the layout is configured, don’t forget to save your configuration. Once saved, check how the menu is displayed on the front-end.
