Meals configuration

Having attractive and informative menu items on the website of your restaurant, bar or cafe is as important as having good menu items on the spot, if not more important. FW Food Menu makes it easy to add images and descriptions to your dishes, set flexible pricing based on the portion sizes and discounts, create specials and meals of the day to promote your business. In this tutorial, you will learn how to create and configure a menu item as well as manage multiple menu items within your menu.

We will proceed as follows:

How to create a menu item

First, let locate menu items section:

  1. Log in to your administrator panel using your credentials.

  2. Locate Components dropdown in the top menu of your Joomla control panel and click on it.

  3. Choose FW Food Menu=>Meals.

  1. Click New button.

  1. Locate Details section.

  2. Mouse over Published option and choose Yes.

  3. Locate Category dropdown and select Cocktails from the list.

  4. Hover over Name textbox and enter Martini into it.

  5. Locate Image section.

  6. Upload the image of the menu item being created. To upload the image, do the following:

  • Click Browse and choose a required image on your PC.

  • Click Upload button.

  1. Go to Description section.

  2. Enter the description of the menu item being added.

  3. Click Save button. Your screen should look similar to the screenshot below:

How to configure pricing for a menu item

A flexible pricing strategy is important for your success. Offering two or three prices for different portion sizes is good for customer enticement as it enables them to predict their spend. To learn how to configure pricing for your menu item, follow the steps below:

  1. Locate Meals tab. To learn how to do this, review steps 1-4 from How to create a menu item tutorial above.

  2. Find Martini menu item in the Meals list and click on it. To learn how to create a menu item, get familiar with How to create a menu item tutorial above.

  1. Locate Sizes and prices section.

  2. Locate Label column and enter the clarifying note here if it is needed. For example, you can enter a label of the drink here or small/medium/big word to describe the size of the portion.

  3. Enter 120 ml into the size column.

  4. Enter 12 into the Price column.

  5. Enter 10 into the Special price column if you want to offer a special discount for the menu item.

  6. Click + button to add a new pricing position.

  7. Click - button to delete a pricing position.

  8. Use the button next to the Label column to change the order of the pricing position. Your screen should look similar to the screenshot below:

Go to the front-end to check how the pricing you have set is displayed.

How to configure promo options

If you want some menu items to stand out from the list, you can add it as new, special or meal of the day using promo options. To learn how to do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Locate Meals tab. To learn how to do this, review steps 1-4 from How to create a menu item tutorial above.

  2. Find *Martini** menu item in the meals list and click on it.

  1. Locate Promo Options section.

  2. Hover over Meal Of The Day option and choose Yes.

  1. Locate Show as new and choose Yes.

  1. Locate Special Offer field and enter the enter the special offer details into it.

  1. Click Save.

Once the promo options are configured, go to the front-end to see how the menu item is displayed. Your screen should look similar to the screenshot below.

How to manage multiple menu items

You can publish/unpublish, edit/delete and order your menu items.

Publish/Unpublish

To publish/unpublish menu items, do the following:

  1. Locate Meals tab. To learn how to do this, review steps 1-4 from How to create a menu item tutorial above.

  2. Locate Martini menu item in the Meals list.

  3. Publish/Unpublish the menu item. You can publish/unpublish the menu item in either of two ways:

  • Locate Publish column and click Publish/Unpublish button.

or

  • Check it.

  • Click Publish/Unpublish button in the top left section of the screen.

Edit/Delete

To edit/delete a menu item, do the following:

  1. Locate Name column of the menu items list.

  2. Find Martini menu item in the Meals list and check it.

  3. Click Edit/Delete button in the top left section of the screen.

Order

To order the menu items, do the following:

  1. Locate Name column of the menu items list.

  2. Find *Martini menu item in the menu items list.

  3. Locate Order column.

  4. Enter a sequence number of the menu item in the textbox.

  5. Click the button next to the textbox to change the order of the menu item.
