FW Gallery tutorial for Joomla!

GALLERY CONFIGURATION AND SETTINGS

In this tutorial, we will learn how to create and configure a gallery.

There is a certain priority in gallery settings. The gallery can be configured either locally (on gallery level) or via global configuration.

Local (individual) gallery settings have priority over parent gallery settings.
Parent gallery settings have priority over global configuration.

Thus:

If local (individual) gallery settings are set to Default, parent gallery settings get applied.
If parent gallery settings are set to Default, global configuration gets applied.

We will use the following sample parameters:

Gallery name: Parties
View access: Guests

We will proceed as follows:

How to create a gallery

HOW TO CREATE A GALLERY

To create a gallery, follow the steps below:

1.Log in to your administrator panel using your credentials.

Locate Components dropdown in the top menu of your Joomla control panel and click on it.
Choose FW Gallery=>Galleries from the list

Locate Galleries tab.
Click New button.

Let’s configure a gallery using gallery settings specified above.

Locate Published label and select Yes from the list.
Locate Gallery Name textbox and enter Parties into it.
Locate Parent Gallery dropdown and select Top.

Make sure to understand that a Top (parent gallery) provides a page with sub-galleries. Thus:

if you choose a particular gallery from the Parent Gallery dropdown, you indicate that this particular gallery is a parent (top) gallery for the gallery being created or its sub-gallery.
if you choose Top from the Parent Gallery dropdown, you indicate that a gallery being created is a parent gallery for all the galleries available on the website.

Set an image/video cover for your gallery.

If you need to set a cover image, you can upload it. To upload the cover image, do the following:

Locate Cover image field and upload the image you want to put on the cover of your gallery.
Locate Cover video and set it as None

If you need to set cover video, follow the steps below:

Locate Cover video field:
Choose Self-hosted to upload mp4 video file from your PC.

or

Choose Youtube/Vimeo as a video source and enter video ID into the corresponding field.

Video id is a unique identifier for your video. In the url string the ID is placed right after “=” sign

Locate Owner label and select John Smith.
Locate Access label and select Guests from the list.

Access option allows to set up gallery view restrictions by role. Thus, you can configure who can view the gallery being created.

Locate Gallery is Public field and click Yes. Thus, you allow front-end upload indicating that a gallery being created can be edited via the front-end manager.
Locate Description label and enter your gallery description into the editor area.
Switch to Design tab

Now, lets configure a gallery. You can set it to Default or apply individual gallery settings. If it is set to default, global gallery configuration gets applied.

Click Save button. Go to the front-end to verify the result.
